"Iranians were today instructed to produce more babies as part of their nation's struggle against the West.Well, this isn't what surprised me!!!The Islamic state's hard-line president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said he wanted the country's 70 million strong population to almost double in an effort to ensure the country's "dominance"."
My surprise was on reading that Iran had introduced family planning and government sponsored vasectomy and contraception in the country in 1980's to control the rapid population growth...
Surprised? But use this logic to tell Indian Muslims that India is ready to burst at seams and population control is imperative - secularism goes under threat suddenly.

So you would like to equate the things in Iran with India... I am sure you won't. Then why in the world do you want the Muslims to do what they do in Iran.
I am not sure such comments help anyone.

I dont want India to be an Iran... but you are suddenly ignoring the fact that its the Muslim community and its leaders in India which want it to be so. Otherwise, why does Bukhari or AIMPLB shout at the govt when India wanted to vote against Iran on nuclear issue... Why does the muslim community come out on streets in Lucknow, Meerut and Hyderabad - coz something wrong happened in palestine or Baghdad- something India had no role in.
Its the muslims of India who still look towards Middle-east for each inspiration and want to copy middle-east blindly... Its the Muslim community which wants the civil code of law applied to them as it acts in middle-east...
SO why not this rule which apparantly is Islamic enough in Iran... be used in India.
I think comments/attitude like this doesnt help anyone - when a community acts selectively...
Darul Ifta - a Muslim religious board under Madhya Pradesh's biggest mosque a fatwa today - terming use of contraceptives as unIslamic.
They would rather have a burgeoning population eat into the megre resources of the nation and sulk deeper into a morass - and then stake a claim for economic packages and upliftment through state sponsorships - than use common sense and family planning. One cleric has stated that the "preventing a woman from getting pregnant is interfering with the nature and its UnIslamic".
